LIFE IS HAPPENING RIGHT NOW. In my 30’s when I had less resources, I used to stay in shitty hotels & sleep in my car to run races out of town. I didn’t concern myself with perceived picture-perfect experiences. If I wanted to run a race, I went no matter how uncomfortable the circumstances would be. I have many FANTASITICAL stories from those days.

I was originally wait listed for this race & got the invite after my work schedule was completed; I was scheduled to work the day before & day after the race. This is not a problem locally, but the race was 6-hours away & I worked till 7pm the night before. I scoffed about how inconvenient all of the circumstances were & how I would have to pay for a hotel to sleep for 5 hours & then be at work by 645 am the day after.

I almost didn’t register but then thought “FUCK IT”; I AM ALIVE RIGHT NOW & there is an opportunity in front of me, so GO MF!

I worked the day before & drove to Atlanta after work, where I slept in my backseat at a Walmart. UGH, this sucked, but man oh man, I EMBRACED THE SUCK. To be free enough to have this opportunity is such a gift.

I slept for 4 hours & went to a Racetrack to brush my teeth & don my running attire. Here I had a nice little convo with the security guard about his erectile dysfunction (WTF); good times.

I drove 10 mins to the race, & while running in the Georgia woods, I listened to my favorite tunes & danced with the race director at the main aide. Finishing first place female & second place overall, I hobbled to my car & drove to the nearest Starbucks (In Atlanta traffic) for a latte & made my way to Planet Fitness in Perry-GA where I showered & bought snacks & sandwich supplies at the Kroger next door.

Here it is the next day at 8am, I am at work for my 12-hour shift & could not be more pleased with the emotional spectrum, discomfort, challenge, & freedom that I was able to experience as a result of my decision to “LET EXPECTATIONS GO”. What a grand & perfect experience.
